Sacramento police are investigating the suspicious death of a 3-year-old boy found with serious injuries Thursday afternoon. Officers responded to the 3300 block of Douglas St. around 12:30 p.m. for a medical aid call, where they discovered the child unconscious and severely injured.

Despite immediate life-saving efforts by first responders, the boy was pronounced dead at the scene. The Sacramento Police Department has classified the case as a suspicious death investigation, with the Sacramento County Coroner's Office set to release the child's identity after notifying next of kin. Investigators are working to determine what caused the fatal injuries.

Authorities have not confirmed whether weapons were involved or who was present when the incident occurred. Neighbors expressed shock at the tragedy, with one longtime resident saying it was the first such incident she'd witnessed in the area.
