In Monroe County, 27 Rochester restaurants were cited for critical health violations during recent inspections, with 10 of those violations stemming from food safety risks like improper temperatures or unsanitary practices. The Monroe County Health Department reported that out of 64 inspections conducted last month, 58 establishments still had unresolved issues from prior checks. Plum Garden and Sushi Samba stood out with 27 and 20 total violations respectively, while Chapel Oaks & Catering and Gates Chili Csd-Paul Road School received perfect scores. Critical violations, which demand immediate correction, often involve food handling, storage, or sanitation failures, whereas non-critical issues relate to maintenance or cleanliness.

The health department emphasized that high-risk establishments, such as full-service restaurants, face bi-annual inspections, while lower-risk venues like coffee shops are checked less frequently. The data underscores ongoing challenges in maintaining consistent food safety standards across the region.
