The husband of Regina Ann Santos-Aviles, a congressional staffer who died by suicide in September, claims to have more texts from Rep. Tony Gonzales (R-TX) showing inappropriate behavior. Adrian Aviles told CNN that the texts reveal Gonzales as "a sick man" who campaigned on family values while allegedly having an affair with his wife.

Aviles alleges the affair began in May 2024, two or three weeks before Santos-Aviles set herself on fire after dousing herself with gasoline. Published texts show Gonzales asking for a "sexy pic," which Santos-Aviles refused, saying "This is going too far, boss." Several House Republicans have called for Gonzales to resign, but he has rejected these demands.

Aviles says he won't release all messages because some are "salacious" and "graphic," wanting to protect his son. He emphasized this isn't political for him, stating he doesn't care about the two congressional seats at stake. "I care about facts," Aviles said, accusing Gonzales of lying about the affair and his wife's name. The controversy has created significant pressure on the Texas congressman as he faces calls to drop his reelection bid.
