A federal grand jury in Michigan has indicted Kathleen Klein, 53, known as 'Prophetess' within the Kingdom of God Global Church, on conspiracy to commit forced labor charges. Klein joins church founder David Taylor and executive director Michelle Brannon in facing allegations of running a decade-long scheme that coerced workers into soliciting roughly $50 million in donations through call centers across four states.

Prosecutors allege victims were forced to work 20+ hours daily, threatened with divine punishment, and subjected to physical abuse for failing to meet aggressive fundraising targets. The church, formerly Joshua Media Ministries International, operated from at least nine call centers in Michigan, Missouri, Florida and Texas. Workers were instructed to claim donations would fund wells and fight human trafficking while allegedly being trafficked themselves.

Court documents reveal leaders funneled donations into luxury real estate including an $8.3 million Tampa mansion and a Wildwood, Missouri estate formerly owned by rapper Nelly, along with high-end vehicles and designer goods. The case exposes significant gaps in nonprofit oversight, as churches remain exempt from IRS Form 990 financial disclosures that secular charities must file, creating potential for exploitation.
