Nicole Clem, owner of Bookkeeping N Beyond in Wichita, faces 50 federal charges. These include wire fraud, failure to pay employment taxes, money laundering, and aggravated identity theft. Clem allegedly used client funds for personal expenses like concert tickets, travel, and credit card payments. The charges stem from Clem's business practices, which involved misappropriation of client funds meant for tax payments.

Specific charges detail how Clem spent client money. She's accused of failing to pay over $1.5 million in taxes on behalf of clients. Court documents reveal payments to a plastic surgery center, a bridal shop, and credit card companies, among others. Clem also allegedly used an employee's filing number after her own was revoked to file tax returns.

Clem, 42, faces significant penalties if convicted. For each wire fraud count, she could receive up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Other counts carry prison sentences between two and ten years, plus fines. This case underscores the importance of financial oversight and the consequences of mismanaging client funds.

Previously, Clem agreed to pay $120,000 in penalties for delaying or not filing taxes for at least 16 customers. The recent charges reflect a broader investigation into her business practices. The case highlights the potential legal ramifications for accounting professionals who misuse client funds, impacting their careers and reputations within the industry.
