New York's winter snowfall continues to climb, with Syracuse leading the state at 127.5 inches as of mid-February. The central New York city is just shy of its average annual snowfall of about 128 inches, according to the National Weather Service. Syracuse also leads the annual "Golden Snowball" contest among upstate cities.

Rochester has surpassed the 100-inch mark for the 2025–26 winter season, recording 100.7 inches at Frederick Douglass Greater Rochester International Airport. This matches Rochester's typical seasonal average, with the city last exceeding this mark during the winter of 2017–18 when 120.5 inches fell. Buffalo has recorded 80.8 inches, while Albany and New York City have seen significantly less snowfall at 47.3 and 21.2 inches respectively.

With measurable snow typically falling through March and occasionally into May, these totals are likely to increase. The current season has already produced impressive numbers compared to historical records, with Rochester's snowiest winter reaching 161.7 inches in 1959–60 and Syracuse's record at 207.9 inches in 1992–93.
