Central New York is bracing for significant snowfall as the National Weather Service has updated winter weather advisories across multiple counties. Onondaga and Madison counties now face 6-10 inches of accumulation, while surrounding areas can expect 2-7 inches through Thursday.

The heaviest snow is forecast between Wednesday afternoon and evening, with lake effect snow showers developing off the Finger Lakes potentially producing locally higher totals. Oswego, Jefferson and Lewis counties are under advisory until 1 a.m. Thursday, expecting 2-5 inches, with higher amounts across the Tug Hill Plateau and western Adirondacks.

Slippery road conditions are expected to impact both the Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes across the region. Travelers are advised to slow down and use caution as the lake effect snow continues through late Thursday morning. The weather service warns that conditions could deteriorate rapidly during peak travel times.
