New Jersey's acting attorney general Jennifer Davenport has decided against appealing the dismissal of racketeering charges against Democratic power broker George Norcross III. The decision came nearly three weeks after a three-judge appellate panel upheld a state judge's ruling that tossed the criminal charges.

The charges, originally filed by former Attorney General Matt Platkin in June 2024, accused Norcross and five co-defendants of running an enterprise since 2012 to leverage political influence for personal gain. The indictment alleged they crafted legislation to serve their own interests, but the judge found the prosecution's claims did not constitute criminal coercion or extortion and were time-barred.

Norcross, who served as executive chairman of Conner Strong & Buckelew, has been a dominant figure in New Jersey politics, previously leading the Camden County Democratic Party and serving as a Democratic National Committee member until 2021. His legal team maintained the indictment was politically motivated, a claim repeatedly denied by Platkin. The case's dismissal marks a significant victory for one of the state's most influential unelected Democrats.
