New Jersey U.S. Attorney's Office Gets Fourth Leader in Year

Federal judges appointed Robert Frazer as interim U.S. attorney for New Jersey, marking the fourth leadership change in the office over the past year. The veteran prosecutor, who has served more than two decades in the office, replaces a three-person team that had been overseeing operations since December.

The appointment follows a period of turmoil that included an unconventional leadership structure deemed unlawful by federal judge Matthew W. Brann in early March. Frazer's selection came after consultations between the District Court and the Department of Justice's senior leadership, according to court documents.

Former acting U.S. attorney Alina Habba, now a senior Justice Department official, praised the appointment as bringing stability aligned with President Trump's agenda. The rapid turnover has raised questions about the office's ability to maintain consistent federal prosecution priorities in the state.
