A winter storm is set to bring plowable snow to Massachusetts on Tuesday evening, with accumulations ranging from 2-4 inches across most of the state. Meteorologist Shiri Spear forecasts snow will begin after 3 p.m. and intensify by 7 p.m., creating hazardous conditions for evening commuters.

A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 6 p.m. Tuesday through 6 a.m. Wednesday for multiple counties including Suffolk and Middlesex. The heaviest snowfall is expected along the North Shore and Seacoast, where totals could reach 4-6 inches in coastal Maine. South Coast areas including Cape Cod and the Islands may see lighter accumulations of 1-2 inches due to mixing with rain.

Tuesday evening and late-night travelers should prepare for slick roads as snow tapers off around 2 a.m. in Boston and closer to 5 a.m. on the Cape and Islands. Cleanup efforts will begin Wednesday with temperatures rebounding to the mid to upper 30s, causing minor melting and dripping icicles. While snowbanks will persist, Spear notes the potential for another storm on Sunday, though details remain uncertain.
