A heavy snowstorm left Berlin, Maryland without power Monday morning after the town's connection to the regional grid failed. Delmarva Power reported nearly 1,000 outages across Maryland and Delaware, affecting over 6% of its 550,000 customers. Choptank Electric Cooperative also reported significant disruptions, with 27% of its 57,000 customers without electricity.

Berlin operates its own municipal electric utility but relies on the regional transmission grid for most of its power. Mayor Zack Tyndall explained that the outage stemmed from Delmarva Power's infrastructure rather than local issues. Town crews worked overnight clearing downed trees and wires while battling heavy snow drifts and high winds.

Tyndall urged residents to stay off the roads, warning that travel posed risks to both residents and emergency responders. Delmarva Power crews aimed to restore service by noon Monday. The mayor's Facebook updates provided real-time information as crews worked to address the widespread outages affecting the Eastern Shore community.
