Malden High School basketball coach Scott Marino, 54, was arrested February 25th on multiple charges including rape and furnishing alcohol to a minor. Authorities allege Marino pressured an 18-year-old student into drinking tequila shots and other liquor on February 18th before raping her. The student was reportedly a foster child living with Marino and his wife since the fall of 2025.

Prosecutors detailed how Marino bought alcohol and pressured the teen to drink despite her discomfort, leading to her vomiting. Marino coached the teen's basketball team and taught math at Linden STEAM Academy. His defense attorney has not commented.

Superintendent Dr. Timothy Sippel stated Marino has been placed on leave, emphasizing student safety as the top priority. The case highlights serious allegations against a trusted community figure.
