Former NBA star Iman Shumpert disclosed on the Club Shay Shay podcast that he made an early investment in Uber, comparing the concept to the Page-A-Cab service featured in the 1997 film B.A.P.S. Shumpert recalled recognizing the potential for a private driver service and decided to invest despite his modest earnings at the time.

Shumpert said his Uber shares flipped about two or three times before he sold his position, assuming the value would decline. While he walked away with profits, he acknowledged missing out on greater gains by not holding longer. His decision to sell was influenced by trust issues with investing in others' ideas, as he explained in a separate VladTV interview.

The former NBA player's financial mindset extended beyond his Uber investment. Shumpert maintained a disciplined approach throughout his basketball career, saving half of his earnings regardless of contract size. This conservative strategy shaped both his investment decisions and his lifestyle as an athlete.
