Construction crews are rapidly building San Marcos' third H-E-B along I-35, with steel beams climbing skyward at the 114,000-square-foot site near the San Marcos Outlets. The massive project, which broke ground in November 2025, promises hundreds of new jobs and a full-service shopping experience when it opens in late 2026.

Located at 1074 E. McCarty Lane, the store will feature True Texas BBQ, a pharmacy drive-thru, curbside pickup, home delivery, fresh tortillas, a bakery, meat and seafood market, Sushiya sushi bar, and Meal Simple prepared foods. Additional amenities include a fuel station, car wash, and H-E-B Fresh Bites convenience store. City and H-E-B officials celebrated the groundbreaking last fall, marking the first H-E-B on San Marcos' east side of the highway.

The construction represents significant retail growth for the Texas college town, where residents have watched with anticipation as the structure's rising walls transform the I-35 corridor. The development underscores San Marcos' rapid residential expansion between Austin and San Antonio, positioning the city for continued economic growth as one of Texas' fastest-growing communities.
