Ford Motor Company reported a 5.5 percent decline in February sales despite strong performance from its large SUV lineup. The Bronco, Explorer, and Expedition all posted double-digit gains, with Explorer sales jumping 33.4 percent to 20,100 units. Bronco sales increased 27.6 percent while Expedition deliveries rose 26.2 percent.

This SUV surge couldn't offset weakness elsewhere in Ford's portfolio. The company's flagship F-Series pickup saw sales plummet 16.2 percent last month, contributing significantly to the overall decline. Mustang sales provided a bright spot, surging 54.5 percent as Ford sold nearly 8,000 units through February.

Electric vehicle sales continued their downward spiral, with Mustang Mach-E deliveries falling 54.6 percent and F-150 Lightning sales dropping 76.3 percent. Ford's EV sales are down 70.3 percent year-to-date, largely attributed to the end of federal incentives. While Lincoln luxury sales rose 11 percent and compact Maverick deliveries grew slightly, the overall sales picture remains challenging for the automaker.
