A driver crashed his vehicle early Sunday morning near Fife, Washington, then pulled a gun on a Good Samaritan who stopped to help, according to the Washington State Patrol. The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on southbound Interstate 5 near the Pierce County-King County line.

Trooper Kameron Watts said the man rolled his car, blocking traffic. Another driver stopped to check on him, but the injured man pulled out a gun and demanded a ride before fleeing into nearby woods. Police dogs tracked the area unsuccessfully.

Authorities later received a tip that the man was injured and hiding in the woods. He's now being treated at a local hospital for crash-related injuries. The Washington State Patrol has not determined if impairment was a factor in the crash. The freeway has since reopened to traffic.
