Colossal Biosciences has achieved a significant milestone in its de-extinction efforts as its three genetically engineered dire wolves now hunt together as a pack. The wolves, named Romulus, Remus, and Khaleesi, have reached full maturity and recently passed comprehensive annual health exams including CT scans and MRIs.

According to Colossal's chief animal officer Matt James, the wolves have progressed from chasing bunnies to attempting deer hunts on their 2,000-acre managed site. The animals follow a "fast and gorge" feeding pattern mimicking wild behavior, sometimes going days without food before consuming large portions. The company unveiled footage at its Dallas headquarters showing the wolves moving through snow and sharing meals together.

The dire wolves were cautiously introduced to their sister last year, initially meeting one at a time under close supervision. Now Khaleesi hunts with the males full-time on the site overseen by a 10-person care team. While Colossal has completed conservation modeling for potential rewilding scenarios, the company confirms these wolves are not being prepared for release into the wild.
