New video footage from the Brown University shooting that killed two students and injured nine others was released Monday by Providence officials. The footage, heavily redacted to protect victims and maintain community trust, shows the chaotic response as police searched for the shooter at 184 Hope Street on December 13, 2025. Officers can be heard coordinating rescue efforts while uncertainty about the shooter's location created confusion.

Providence Mayor Brett Smiley emphasized the city's commitment to transparency while acknowledging the potential harm to victims and families. The released material includes body camera footage from the officer in charge of the initial response, showing officers evacuating students and searching the building for the gunman. Audio recordings capture the moment campus police first reported gunshots and later provided a suspect description of someone wearing all black and a ski mask.

The city waited to release the footage at the request of victims' families until after a memorial service was held on Brown's campus. The gunman, Claudio Neves Valente, was a former Brown graduate student who also killed MIT professor Nuno F.G. Loureiro at his Boston-area home. Valente, who had attended school with Loureiro in Portugal, was found dead days later in a New Hampshire storage facility.
