Atlanta area authorities have arrested Isaiah Romont Santos Thomas in connection with a fatal January shooting in Augusta. The MARTA Police Department took Thomas into custody on March 3, and he has been transported to the Charles B. Webster Detention Center in Augusta to face murder charges.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office says Thomas faces charges of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. The charges stem from the Jan. 22 killing of Miguel Jean Karlos Rodriguez Cruz near Yates Drive at Susan Circle in Augusta. Authorities say Cruz was fatally shot during the incident.

Investigators say the case remains active as they continue gathering evidence. The arrest follows a coordinated effort between Atlanta and Augusta law enforcement agencies to locate and apprehend the suspect in the January homicide.
