Uber Eyes Acquisition of Delivery Hero

Uber Technologies is in advanced negotiations to acquire German food‑delivery giant Delivery Hero, a deal that could vastly broaden the U.S. company’s global reach Anw

Delivery Hero confirmed it is engaged in talks with Uber, following Bloomberg’s report that an agreement could be reached as early as this week. The proposed transaction would value Delivery・Hero well above its recent trading price of 36 euros per share, with the Berlin‑based firm’s market capitalization near 11.2 billion euros. Delivery Hero declined to disclose the offer details but said any bid would be extended to all shareholders.

Uber’s shares dipped nearly 2% after the news, while Delivery Hero’s stock rose 5.76% to 39.10 euros. Earlier offers, such as Uber’s 38‑euros‑per‑share bid in May, were deemed too low by investors. An acquisition would expand Uber Eats across EuropeETS, the Middle East, Asia, and Latin America, but could trigger antitrust scrutiny due to overlapping operations.

The move reflects a broader industry trend toward consolidation amid slowing growth and fierce competition, as companies seek tighter profit margins and diversified services beyond core ride‑hailing. Uber has already broadened its portfolio to include groceries, travel, and local commerce, and recently announced expansion into seven new European markets, targeting $1 billion in gross bookings over the next three years.
