Satorp refinery shut after Iran‑linked damage, hits TotalEnergies output

TotalEnergies confirmed that the Satorp refinery complex in Jubail, Saudi Arabia, has been halted after night‑time damage to one of its two processing trains. The joint venture, in which the French group holds a 37.5% stake alongside Saudi Aramco, supplies a sizable share of regional crude output. The shutdown follows a series of attacks linked to the ongoing Iran‑Saudi conflict.

The incident adds to a string of disruptions that have already forced TotalEnergies to curtail production in Qatar, Iraq and offshore UAE, trimming roughly 15% of its global output. Investors have watched the Middle East tension push oil prices higher, and the loss of Satorp’s capacity could tighten supply further, pressuring margins for both partners in the near term.

With Saudi Aramco owning the majority of Satorp, the firm faces a strategic dilemma: repair the damaged train quickly or accept prolonged downtime that would dent earnings this quarter. Market analysts note that any prolonged outage could shave off several hundred million dollars from the joint venture’s profit, underscoring the broader financial ripple of the regional flare‑up for global markets.
