Consolidated Edison, the New York-based utility company, announced a significant increase in its second-quarter profit, reaching $308 million compared to $246 million in the prior year. This surge in earnings, translating to 83 cents per share, surpassed analyst expectations of 76 cents per share.

The company also experienced a substantial rise in operating revenue, which climbed to $4.07 billion from $3.6 billion a year earlier. This performance exceeded Wall Street's expectations, as analysts had forecast $3.60 billion in revenue.

The growth in profit and revenue was notably supported by increased electric sales. Consolidated Edison's financial results reflect a strong second quarter, demonstrating improved performance across key financial metrics.
