CSX Corporation reported a stronger second quarter, with both profit and sales on the rise. The railroad operator's net income reached $1 billion, or 54 cents a share, a notable increase from the $829 million (44 cents a share) recorded in the same period last year.

Revenue saw a significant jump of 10%, totaling $3.94 billion. This growth was attributed to several factors, including higher fuel surcharge revenue, increased shipping volumes, and improved pricing across its merchandise, intermodal, and coal segments. The revenue figure surpassed analysts' expectations of $3.89 billion.

Operating income also demonstrated robust performance, climbing 17% to $1.51 billion. This overall positive financial report highlights CSX's operational efficiency and market strength during the second quarter.
