American Airlines plans to install seat-back screens on more than 800 planes as part of a broad cabin overhaul aimed at boosting premium revenue and closing the gap with rivals Delta and United. The upgrades include adding screens at every seat, more first-class rows, and extra-legroom seating across its narrow-body fleet.

The carrier is retrofitting its Airbus A319 and A320 fleets to add an extra row in first class, while upcoming Boeing 737 MAX 10 deliveries will feature two dozen first-class seats. Its A321neo fleet will also be reconfigured with more premium seating. American said it plans to boost the share of premium seating on narrow-body departures to 40% from about 25% currently.

The investment mirrors a broader industry push to enhance onboard experiences and win loyalty from higher-spending travelers. In addition to the interior upgrades, American previously announced plans to add Starlink Wi-Fi on hundreds of narrow-body planes starting next year.
