Meta Platforms has expanded its Northeast Louisiana data‑center project to 5 gigawatts of compute capacity, pushing the estimated cost above $50 billion. The venture, located in the rural Richland Parish region, was originally budgeted at $27 billion and will become the company’s largest data center and one of the world’s biggest AI‑infrastructure investments, Meta announced on Monday.

Private‑credit manager Blue Owl Capital holds a major stake in the development, which has also attracted investors such as BlackRock, according to the Wall Street Journal. Meta has agreed to cover the energy, water and related infrastructure expenses, and in March secured a partnership with Entergy Louisiana to fund the necessary power infrastructure.

The project underscores Meta’s commitment to scaling AI capabilities while leveraging private‑capital financing. For further details, contact Dean Seal at [email protected].
