Turning Point USA Expands High School Network Amid Political Push

Turning Point USA is rapidly expanding its high school network through state partnerships with Republican governors, marking a significant shift in conservative outreach to younger students. The organization, which already operates 3,200 high school chapters nationwide, has secured new alliances with Arkansas and Indiana, joining states like Florida, Texas, and Oklahoma in promoting Club America chapters.

The partnerships come six months after the September assassination of founder Charlie Kirk, who had been building momentum for high school expansion before his death. Governors Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Mike Braun announced the new arrangements, which Turning Point says involve no taxpayer funding but provide students with resources including posters, banners, and up to $1,000 in activism grants. Critics argue the state-endorsed partnerships amount to political indoctrination in public schools.

Liberal groups like Defense of Democracy contend the clubs create divisive environments, particularly for LGBTQ+ students, while supporters frame them as forums for discussing free markets and limited government. The controversy reflects broader tensions over conservative influence in education, with some administrators temporarily blocking clubs over bureaucratic concerns rather than ideological opposition. As the network grows toward its goal of 20,000 chapters, the debate over political clubs in high schools shows no signs of abating.
