A domestic‑violence shooting on Sunday in Shreveport left eight children dead, authorities confirmed. The gunman, later killed by police during a pursuit, fired at three residences between West 79th and Harrison Streets. Ten people were shot overall, including two adults whose conditions remain unknown.

Cpl. Chris Bordelon reported the incident began just after 6 a.m., when officers responded to a report of gunfire. The shooter commandeered a vehicle and fled toward a neighboring parish before being shot by law enforcement.

The tragedy, described by Mayor Tom Arceneaux as “maybe the worst tragic situation we’ve ever had,” involved children ranging from 1 to 14 years old, some of whom were descendants of the gunman. Louisiana State Police will investigate the fatal shooting.

This incident underscores the urgent need for community safety measures and robust support systems to prevent domestic violence escalation. Local leaders and residents face a stark reminder of the human cost when such crises unfold.
