About 100 protesters were detained Monday after blocking Third Avenue in Midtown Manhattan to oppose arms sales to Israel. The demonstration, organized by groups including Jewish Voice for Peace, targeted the offices of Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand at 780 Third Avenue.

Protesters sat in the street for about an hour, revealing T-shirts with messages like "Fund People Not Bombs" and chanting "Schumer, Gillibrand, talk is cheap!" The action coincided with Senator Bernie Sanders' push to block a $447 million weapons package including 12,000 bombs and bulldozers. Chelsea Manning, the former Army intelligence analyst, was among those detained.

The protest highlighted growing Democratic divisions over military aid to Israel. While Sanders introduced legislation to halt the sale, Schumer's office declined comment and Gillibrand did not respond to requests for comment. The Trump administration has defended the arms sale as necessary for Israel's defense.
