World-renowned Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja, also known as Nims Dai, is among 11 climbers caught in a deadly avalanche on Pakistan’s Broad Peak. The Alpine Club of Pakistan reported that an avalanche struck the team, with rescuers confirming that four bodies have been found so far.

Three of the deceased have been identified as Pur Bahadur Gurung, Nadhira Alharthy, and US climber Mallory Geis. Purja, a former British special forces member, made history in 2019 by climbing all 14 peaks over 8,000 metres in just over six months. He was leading an expedition for his company, Elite Exped, when the disaster occurred.

GPS data suggests the avalanche happened near 6,579 metres on the mountain's west ridge. While Purja’s tracker showed a rapid descent, his business partner, Mingma Gyabu Sherpa, noted that the location shifted after the initial incident, leaving his condition unverified. Search efforts continue despite harsh weather and limited helicopter availability in the region.
