Missouri and Illinois Tornado and Severe Storm Warning

Missouri and Illinois face a substantial tornado risk on Monday, with the Storm Prediction Center issuing a level four out of five severe weather threat for the St. Louis area. Dangerous weather has persisted across the Midwest, with storms already active in Kansas and Missouri, including near Kansas City and Topeka, as the National Weather Service warns of possible strong tornadoes, damaging wind gusts, and hail up to three inches in diameter.

This marks the most intense day of severe weather in the region, as forecasters expect the greatest number of storms and highest concentration of severe weather in densely populated areas. North Texas was recently hit by a deadly tornado and severe storms, displacing dozens and causing power outages, underscoring the region's vulnerability to such events. While the threat eases slightly on Tuesday, Monday's conditions remain critical for residents in Missouri, Illinois, and parts of the lower Ohio Valley.

Flash flooding is also a concern, with rainfall rates of up to two inches per hour expected early Monday over northern Missouri, potentially leading to dangerous conditions. The severe weather outbreak is part of a broader active stretch in the Plains and South, which has already produced over 50 tornado reports, including a preliminary EF4 tornado in Oklahoma. Residents in affected areas are advised to take immediate precautions, including seeking shelter and monitoring updates from local authorities.
