Lululemon Theft Spree: $45K in Athleisure Stolen in NYC

A coordinated theft spree targeting Lululemon and Alo stores in Manhattan and Brooklyn has netted thieves nearly $45,000 in merchandise over recent weeks, police report. The most brazen heist occurred March 3 at a Williamsburg Lululemon, where three individuals stole $21,000 worth of high-end athleisure clothing in broad daylight.

Police say eight grand larcenies have hit yoga-inspired retailers since late February, with the Fifth Avenue Lululemon store targeted four times in 15 days. The smallest theft, at an Alo store on Bedford Avenue, involved just $1,334 worth of merchandise. Security footage shows thieves reaching into display cases and fleeing on foot, with incidents ranging from $2,916 to $11,000 in losses.

Retail theft experts note that Lululemon and Alo products share characteristics that make them attractive targets: they're widely available, easy to conceal, and command high resale value. The thefts mirror a national trend affecting athleisure stores, with similar incidents reported in Pennsylvania and California. Police have released surveillance photos but made no arrests, while store employees face increasing safety concerns during these daylight robberies.
