Joseph Duggar, a former star of the TLC reality series “19 Kids and Counting,” was arrested on Wednesday on charges accusing him of molesting a 9-year-old girl in Florida in 2020, the authorities said.

Mr. Duggar, 31, was arrested in Arkansas and is awaiting extradition to Bay County, Florida, where the girl reported the assault to police on Wednesday. The Bay County Sheriff's Office stated Mr. Duggar repeatedly engaged in “unlawful sexual activity” with the victim in Panama City Beach, Florida, in 2020. The girl, now 14, told investigators Mr. Duggar later apologized and the incidents stopped.

The charges include lewd and lascivious molestation of a victim less than 12 years old and lewd and lascivious behavior by someone 18 or older. It was not immediately clear if Mr. Duggar had a lawyer, and the Duggar family did not respond to requests for comment.

This arrest follows the 2015 suspension of “19 Kids and Counting” after allegations surfaced that Mr. Duggar's older brother, Josh Duggar, molested several girls when he was a teenager. Josh Duggar was later sentenced to over 12 years in prison in 2022 for downloading child sexual abuse imagery. Several Duggar family members have distanced themselves from Josh Duggar since his 2021 arrest.
