A sworn declaration in a federal lawsuit alleges that the Trump administration extensively shared details about Iranian asylum seekers with Iranian officials for months, leading to over 100 deportations to Tehran between September 2025 and January 2026.

According to lawyer Cyrus Mehri, an unnamed Iranian official reported receiving regular dossiers on detainees from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and engaging in monthly meetings to discuss deportations. The official allegedly stated the administration's goal was to “get rid of all Iranians” in U.S. immigration detention. This occurred despite the lack of formal diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Iran since 1979.

The Iranian American Legal Defense Fund filed the suit, claiming the government illegally shared confidential information, exposing individuals to persecution. The Department of Homeland Security repeated a prior denial of the lawsuit's claims without addressing the new details. The lawsuit seeks to suspend any agreement that could lead to disclosures about detainees, who include asylum seekers with fears of persecution in Iran.
