Georgia Teacher Death Prank Charges Dropped

Prosecutors have dismissed criminal charges against five Georgia teenagers whose teacher prank turned fatal last week in Gainesville. Jason Hughes, a 40-year-old North Hall High School teacher, died March 6 after slipping in the rain and being struck by a student's pickup truck.

Hughes had known about the toilet paper prank and approached the students to catch them in the act. As he fell into the street, Jayden Ryan Wallace, 18, drove over him while fleeing. Wallace initially faced felony vehicular homicide charges along with misdemeanors for the other students.

The teacher's family urged prosecutors to drop charges, stating the students loved Hughes and tried to provide first aid. The Hall County Sheriff's Office supported the decision, noting its duty to file charges even when controversial.
