FBI Hunts NYC Volleyball Coach in Sex Abuse Case

The FBI has launched an international manhunt for Edgar Lazaro Castillo, a youth volleyball coach accused of sexually assaulting teenage players. The 36-year-old coach, who has worked at schools, colleges, and clubs across the New York City area since 2010, fled the country after allegations surfaced from a teenage player who reported being assaulted during a tournament in Boston in March.

Castillo most recently served as director of the boys' volleyball program at NYC Impact Volleyball Club and was suspended last month from his assistant coaching position at John Jay College for Criminal Justice. The investigation, which involves the U.S. attorney's office in Brooklyn, began after the Boston incident and has since expanded to include multiple potential victims spanning a decade of Castillo's coaching career.

The case has sent shockwaves through the youth sports community, where parents pay thousands annually for elite programs that promise college pathways. Several organizations where Castillo coached, including Xavier High School and St. Joseph's University, say they're cooperating with investigators. The FBI has posted a questionnaire seeking information from potential victims, asking about sexual images, videos, and payments.
