DHS Admits Error in Nevada Voter Noncitizen Claims

The Department of Homeland Security told Nevada election officials that it identified 185 "potential" noncitizens on the state's voter rolls, not the nearly 16,000 it claimed last month.

The discrepancy emerged after Nevada officials requested verification of the agency's earlier assertions. DHS had previously stated that thousands of noncitizens were illegally registered to vote in the state.

Nevada Secretary of State Catherine Coleman confirmed the revised number during a meeting with federal officials, noting that the original figure was significantly overstated.

The error has raised questions about the accuracy of federal claims regarding voter fraud. DHS officials acknowledged the mistake but did not provide an explanation for the initial miscalculation.

This development comes amid ongoing national debates over election integrity and voter registration practices. Nevada election officials are now reviewing the remaining cases to determine if further action is needed.
