A Colombian military C-130 Hercules aircraft crashed Monday morning in southern Colombia, killing at least 34 people and injuring 77 others. The plane, carrying 125 troops and crew members, went down shortly after taking off from Puerto Leguízamo in the Putumayo region near the Peruvian border.

Rescue workers recovered 34 bodies and transported the injured to local hospitals, where 14 remained in grave condition. The aircraft was en route to Puerto Asis when it crashed in a remote area known for coca cultivation and drug trafficking activity. Defense Minister Pedro Arnulfo Sánchez said there were no indications of an attack by illegal groups.

Videos from the scene showed a large fire and chaotic rescue efforts as residents on motorcycles rushed to help injured soldiers. The crash site's isolation complicated rescue operations, with injured personnel being airlifted to major hospitals elsewhere in Colombia. The Colombian Air Force is investigating the cause of the accident, which occurred in an isolated pocket on the banks of the Putumayo River.
