The attack on a synagogue outside Detroit follows a sharp increase in antisemitic incidents across the United States. The Anti-Defamation League recorded more than 9,300 antisemitic cases nationwide in 2024, the highest number since tracking began in 1979.

Security experts say Middle East conflicts consistently trigger threats against Jewish communities in America. After the US and Israel launched airstrikes on Iran in late February, online posts targeting Jews with violent rhetoric nearly doubled, with over 4,300 such posts in just four days.

Synagogues nationwide have heightened security measures, with many already accustomed to heavy protection. 91 percent of American Jews report feeling less safe in the US following high-profile attacks last year, including the arson at Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro's home and the killing of two Israeli Embassy aides in Washington.
