America's Economic Boom Leaves Many Feeling Left Behind

Despite unprecedented economic growth, Americans express deep dissatisfaction, revealing a troubling disconnect. The U.S. economy now dwarfs competitors like Europe and Japan, with living standards in nations such as France rivaling those of Mississippi. Yet, the middle class has shrunk significantly, while the wealthy have surged ahead.

In 2024, just 31.1% of families are upper-middle class, up from 10.4% in 1979, and the rich now represent 3.7% of households versus 0.3% decades ago. This shift means income thresholds for the top tiers have skyrocketed, creating a multitiered society where prosperity is increasingly inaccessible. The top 10% of earners now account for 49.7% of all spending, tilting the entire economy toward the minority at the expense of the majority.
