Taco Bell Sales Bounce Back After Outbreak

Taco Bell's sales have recovered following an outbreak of cyclosporiasis linked to its salads, according to its parent company, Yum Brands. The fast-food chain experienced a dip in sales after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) investigated the outbreak, which sickened at least 71 people across 10 states.

Yum Brands attributed the recovery to Taco Bell's swift and transparent actions, including immediately removing the suspected ingredient – romaine lettuce – from its restaurants. This proactive approach, coupled with clear communication to consumers about the steps being taken to ensure food safety, appears to have helped rebuild customer confidence.

The company did not provide specific sales figures but indicated that the negative impact of the outbreak on its business was temporary. The incident served as a reminder of the vulnerability of the food supply chain and the importance of rapid response in managing foodborne illness crises.
