Mamdani Courts Wall Street After Tax Crusade

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, known for his "tax-the-rich" policies, recently met with Wall Street titans Jamie Dimon and David Solomon. The meetings follow Mamdani's controversial social media video featuring billionaire Ken Griffin's $238 million apartment as he promoted taxing multimillion-dollar second homes. Mamdani, the city's first democratic socialist mayor, has struggled to maintain relations with the business community.

Mamdani held separate meetings at JPMorgan Chase's headquarters and later with Goldman Sachs CEO David Solomon at Gracie Mansion. JPMorgan's spokesperson called the conversation "constructive," while the mayor's team described both sessions as genial. The meetings focused on cutting government waste, reforming land-use regulations, and fostering public-private partnerships. Dimon gifted Mamdani a book emphasizing collaboration between government and business.

The apparent reconciliation tour comes after Mamdani's Tax Day demonstration outside Griffin's home, which the billionaire called "creepy and weird," suggesting it endangered his safety. The mayor has since met with several other financial leaders including Blackstone's Jonathan Gray and Bank of America's Brian Moynihan. These discussions signal Mamdani's recognition of Wall Street's importance to the city's economy despite his progressive tax agenda.
