Eric Trump Joins Beijing Trip Amid China Business Questions

President Trump arrived in Beijing on Wednesday with a delegation of top cabinet officials and corporate executives — including his middle son Eric Trump, who runs the Trump Organization. The family business has a complicated history with China, making his presence politically charged regardless of the official purpose.

The Trump Organization insists Eric is traveling "in a personal capacity as a supportive son" with no plans to pursue business in China. However, the company holds dozens of Chinese trademarks covering hotels, bars and spas that could theoretically be developed later. During Trump's first term, the organization pledged to avoid foreign deals while he held office, but has since announced ventures in the Middle East and Tbilisi, Georgia.

The trip evokes parallels to Hunter Biden's 2013 visit to China alongside then-Vice President Joe Biden — a connection Trump himself has repeatedly criticized. The delegation also included Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and corporate leaders such as Elon Musk and Tim Cook. Eric's presence, however ceremonial, blurs the line between family support and business interests that the Trump Organization has long struggled to clarify.
