Vår Energi's Q4 production surged by 43% year-over-year, according to a recent trading update. This substantial increase was fueled by higher oil and gas volumes, along with the resolution of operational challenges at key assets. The Norwegian oil and gas producer saw net output average 397,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day, up 7% from the previous quarter.

The company cited the resolution of issues at the Johan Castberg and Jotun FPSO facilities as key drivers. These operational hurdles, which were reported in December, were addressed early in January, allowing production to return to expected levels. Oil and natural gas liquids accounted for the majority of the quarter's production, with gas making up the remainder.

Fourth-quarter production reached 36.6 million barrels of oil equivalent. Vår Energi's average realized price for the quarter was $62 per barrel of oil equivalent. Furthermore, the company reported a net foreign exchange loss of about $40 million due to the weakening of the Norwegian krone. Investors should watch for further updates on production levels.

Free cash flow was affected by tax payments and a dividend. The company also paid $180 million related to the acquisition of TotalEnergies’ share in the Ekofisk Previously Produced Fields project. The company also reported a non-cash impairment of technical goodwill in the fourth quarter estimated at about $70 million before tax, related to the Njord Area, Gjøa and Snorre assets.
