At the World Economic Forum in Davos, Sergio Ermotti told reporters that the UBS Group board is reviewing both internal and external CEO candidates to replace him when he departs at the end of 2026 or early 2027. He said his role is to present a broad slate for the board’s evaluation.

Potential insiders include Aleksandar Ivanovic, head of asset management, wealth‑management co‑heads Iqbal Khan and Robert Karofsky, and COO Beatriz Martin. Chairman Colm Kelleher has floated the idea that Ermotti could later assume the chair after a cooling‑off period, though Ermotti declined to comment, emphasizing his focus on the ongoing Credit Suisse integration.

Investors will gauge whether an outsider can accelerate cost cuts and digital upgrades that the board promised after the Credit Suisse takeover. A swift appointment could stabilize the Swiss banking giant’s share price, while a prolonged search may keep the stock under pressure. Market watchers expect a decision by mid‑2026.
