Asian Demand Risks Spur Gold Price Volatility Warning

BCA Research cautions that gold prices face heightened vulnerability to sudden declines if investment flows from Asia reverse course. The firm notes Chinese and Asian investors have dominated recent gold ETF purchases, accounting for most demand growth since late 2025.

Roukaya Ibrahim, BCA's chief commodity strategist, warns these buyers exhibit momentum-driven behavior that could amplify selloffs. A modest price dip might trigger rapid position unwinding, potentially creating a 5-10% near-term correction. Regional ETF holdings now represent over 40% of global gold-backed fund assets, up from 25% three years ago.

Longer-term supports remain intact, with central banks in emerging markets continuing strategic accumulation. BCA estimates official sector buying could absorb up to $15 billion in gold sales during corrections, preventing sustained bear markets. The metal's cyclical outlook stays positive despite short-term technical risks.
