UAE Resumes Flights as Missiles Shake Tourism Hub

The United Arab Emirates has resumed flights and urged residents to resume normal life after days of Iranian missile and drone attacks rattled the Gulf state's reputation as a safe haven. Officials insisted air defenses could withstand the continuing assault as the region's pre-eminent commercial and tourism hub adjusts to the conflict with the Islamic Republic.

Dubai's Emirates and Abu Dhabi's Etihad resumed limited services to Europe and the UK on Tuesday, while officials said up to 80 flights daily would process about 20,000 passengers in the coming days. The attacks have rocked the fast-growing entrepot economy, impacting aviation, trade, and the perception of safety that defines this tightly controlled Gulf state. Many expatriates have fled by driving to Oman or Saudi Arabia, though most of the 11 million-plus residents remain.

Travel industry executives report holidaymakers canceling plans to visit Dubai and Abu Dhabi for at least six months over fears of prolonged conflict. More than 20,000 short-term rentals were canceled over the weekend, with luxury travelers shifting to the Caribbean or Morocco. While hotels have been quick to refund bookings, the major fear for hoteliers is that the UAE will no longer be seen as a 'safe haven.' The attacks have dented Dubai's invincibility aura, though business travel is expected to return once disruptions ease.
