President Donald Trump declared that the civil nuclear agreement signed this week between the U.S. Department of Energy and Saudi Arabia will move forward only if the kingdom normalises diplomatic ties with Israel.

The announcement on Wednesday described the pact as a “decades‑long, multibillion‑dollar partnership” without mentioning Israel. Sixteen hours later, Trump posted on Truth Social that the deal is “totally subject to Saudi Arabia joining the very respected and successful Abraham Accords.”

Democratic lawmakers and Israel‑aligned conservatives criticized the agreement for forfeiting U.S. leverage and lacking safeguards against future weapons‑grade enrichment. The deal could allow U.S. assistance in enriching uranium on Saudi soil, raising proliferation concerns.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has insisted any normalisation requires irreversible steps toward a Palestinian state, a condition Israel rejects. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed Trump’s linkage, calling Saudi entry into the Accords a historic leap for Middle East peace.
