John Lewis has launched a three‑year turnaround plan under Chair Jason Tarry, aiming to generate hundreds of millions in extra profit amid tight consumer spending. The strategy, dubbed “Rise,” focuses on rebuilding foundations—better tech, simpler processes, and reliable systems—before targeting market leadership. The partnership also seeks over £100 million in additional profit by merging John Lewis and Waitrose loyalty programmes and expects £180 million annual profit from its retail media business.

Other pillars include “John Lewis Leading Again,” “Tomorrow’s Value,” “Fuelled Today,” and “Next Level Partnership Team.” The plan marks a return to retail basics after previous diversification attempts. Tarry, a former Tesco UK chief, has emphasized faster decision‑making and performance, while the partnership aims to double money‑service users to 2 million, grow its property portfolio by £500 million, and navigate tough trading conditions exacerbated by the Iran war’s economic impact.
