Hugh Crossley, Lord Somerleyton, is offering a 10 per cent stake in his family's 5,000-acre Somerleyton Hall estate in Suffolk for £10mn. The 17-bedroom Jacobean-Victorian house, featured in productions like The Crown, has been in the family since 1863. Crossley, who has managed the estate since 2005, launched the proposal via Instagram seeking "a family or small group of families" for a "skin in the game" investment blending lifestyle and heritage.

The arrangement spans 10 years, combining annual stays at the Hall — centred around summer, game shoots, and Christmas — with investment in estate ventures. A prospectus outlines funding needs: £1.5mn for a reservoir, £2mn for property modernisation, £3mn for 100 new marina moorings, and £3mn for a members' club. Crossley emphasises the opportunity is "lifestyle-led or heritage-led" rather than purely financial, seeking investors who share the family's values and connection to the estate's community and history.

The offer comes as England's super-prime rural market shows 13.5 per cent average discounts, the highest since 2017, according to Stoneacre Advisors. Crossley describes the proposal as an "appetite whetter" not yet set in stone, merging commercial, community, and family gain.
