A scion of Brazil’s Batista business dynasty will become chief executive at JBS, as the world’s largest meatpacker returns the top post to a member of its controlling family. Wesley Batista Filho, 34, will assume the role at the global food conglomerate in January, the São Paulo-headquartered group announced on Monday.

Batista Filho, who currently leads the company’s US division, is the son of former JBS CEO Wesley Batista and the grandson of its founder José Batista Sobrinho. The incoming boss will replace Gilberto Tomazoni, who will move to vice-chair following a transition period. Tomazoni became the first person from outside the Batista family to run the business.

JBS last week announced that the Indonesian sovereign wealth fund, Danantara, would invest $2.5bn for a 25 per cent stake in a joint venture covering the region, Australia and New Zealand. On Monday, JBS posted a net loss of $102mn in the second quarter, though revenues were up 14 per cent to $23.9bn.
